A Class with Fred Oldfield

Below are some comments from the Fred Oldfield class. Thank you to Fred Oldfield, the FOHC for the facility, and thank you, Carla, for arranging this class for ECA!

What a character Fred is!  I'm so glad I got the opportunity to learn from him and learn all about him...the stories he can tell!!  Such a sense of humor and quick as a whip!!  Oh to be like him when I'm his age!  What a talented gentleman!  It's amazing with just a few flips of his paintbrush and voila!!  A beautiful mountain scene!  Hope to have another opportunity to work with him.
Lauri Heath

I learned you only need 7 colors to do those paintings and that it is a good idea to separate the warm ones from the cold ones.  Water needs to be really flat horizontally.  To do the mountains well...the paint needs to be "choppy" (not neat! and either straight down or at an angle) and more than one mountain hides in another one.
Isabelle

The most amazing thing was how our sloppy mixture of colors could look so beautiful once you stood back and looked at your painting from a distance.  I'm looking forward to finishing mine.
Vickie Mack

It was great!  A group of gals!  And everyone just fell in love with Fred, of course!
Carla

Taking a class from Fred Oldfield is truly a remarkable experience.  Having enjoyed the long and wonderful life Fred is experiencing, he is able to pass on to us an education that goes way beyond the brush and pallet full of paint.   We were graced with a talent beyond comprehension, a wit and character to behold. Stories were told that backed up his knowledge of the life and the scenery he depicts in his paintings.  One leaves the FOWHC full of like and with a sense of accomplishment at what Fred was able to extract out of each and everyone of us.  With Fred's hands on help, we all felt that we had created a masterpiece.
